Summer school is considered part of the current award year. Students who plan to take summer courses and would like to receive financial aid must:

  1. Have a current 2008-2009 FAFSA listing EKU as one of the schools you wish to attend. If you have not filed a FAFSA, you may do so online at
www.fafsa.ed.gov. If you have already submitted a FAFSA and only need to add EKU, you may add Eastern's school code online (001963) by going to www.fafsa.ed.gov and choosing 'Make Corrections to a Processed FAFSA'. You must have your PIN in order to access your record. The PIN also serves as your electronic signature.
  2. Be fully admitted to EKU as a regular degree-seeking student.
  3. Be enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours in order to receive a Federal student loan if you are an undergraduate student; the minimum for students enrolled in graduate courses is 6 hours*.
  4. Summer school Stafford loans will be applied in two separate disbursements. The first disbursement will be on the first day that the student's classes begin. The second will be disbursed at the mid-point of the student's actual enrollment period.
  5. Be in compliance with the standards of EKU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (see: Policies at www.finaid.eku.edu/policies/sap/).
  6. Summer 2009 tuition is as follows:

In state undergraduate - $253.34 per hour
Targeted undergraduate - $399.83 per hour
Out of state undergraduate - $692.17 per hour

In state graduate - $368.44 per hour
Targeted graduate - $576.11 per hour
Out of state graduate - $1,010.33 per hour
  7. Students requesting summer aid should respond 'YES' when asked 'Do you want to be considered for Federal Financial Aid' within the REGISTRATION menu of EKUDirect. Students can also contact the Financial Aid Office directly to initiate the aid process. Eligibility notices will be sent and summer loan awards must be "accepted' by returning the loan eligibility notices to the Financial Aid Office before the loan funds can be processed/disbursed.
*Any change in your class schedule may delay your disbursement(s).
